Antioxidant Capacity Assays Services

Excess ROS must be rapidly removed from cells through a variety of antioxidant defense mechanisms. Cellular antioxidant enzymes and other redox molecules are used to balance reactive oxygen species produced in cells.

Creative Bioarray offers FRAP, TAC, ORAC, HORAC assay services. This service helps customers to measure the ability of the provided samples to neutralize specific types of free radicals. The types of samples we can accept include, biological fluids, cells and extracts.

Antioxidant Capacity Assays Services at Creative Bioarray

The Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) Assay Service

Antioxidant Capacity Assays ServicesFigure 1. Reaction scheme involved in FRAP assay. (Santos & Silva, 2020)

Principle Sample form Applications
Measures antioxidant potential in samples through the reduction of ferric iron (Fe3+) to ferrous iron (Fe2+). Serum, plasma, lysates, biological fluids This method can also be used to assay the antioxidant capacity of purified food or drug extracts if required.

The Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) Assay Service

Principle Sample form Applications
Reduction of copper(II) to copper(I) Plasma, serum, urine, cell lysates, tissue homogenates and food extracts. Works with a wide variety of antioxidants.

The Oxygen Radical Antioxidant Capacity (ORAC) Assay Service

Measures the ability to scavenge oxygen radicals. Suitable for use with plasma, cell fractions, tissue lysates, solid and aqueous nutrition samples.

The Hydroxyl Radical Antioxidant Capacity (HORAC) Assay Service

Measures the capacity to reduce hydroxyl radicals. Suitable for use with plasma, cell fractions, tissue lysates, solid and aqueous nutrition samples

Trolox Equivalent Antioxidant Capacity (TEAC) Assay
